Liverpool have promoted youngster Ki-Jana Hoever to the first team squad and the whole of Twitter cracked the same joke.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp will now cast his eye over the highly rated Dutch youngster as a defensive injury crisis continues to rage through the team.

Joel Matip, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez are all crocked, while youngster Nat Phillips is spending time on the treatment table as well. This has promoted Klopp to call Hoever up to Melwood, said the Liverpool Echo.

James Pearce announced the news on Twitter, and his followers immediately cracked the same joke about the 16-year-old Dutch starlet.

After starting life in the U16 squad, it soon became clear that Hoever was playing at a different level to his peers. As a result, Neil Critchley called the defender up to his U23 squad and the starlet made his Premier League 2 debut against Everton in October.

Liverpool signed Hoever from Ajax last season – and the newspaper wrote the Eredivisie giants were gutted to lose such a bright prospect for hardly anything.

Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City wanted the prospect, but Klopp’s track record with youth development convinced Hoever that Anfield was the right place to be. And it looks like his faith in the gaffer is already paying off.

While you wouldn’t expect the defender to get on the pitch during this injury crisis, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility to imagine a scenario in which Klopp puts Hoever on the bench.

With a packed Christmas schedule and players dropping like flies, the Dutchman could be closed to a senior debut than he thinks. Liverpool are probably only one more injury away from throwing the talented boy in at the deep end, although you wouldn’t want it to come to that.
