The transfer rumour linking Nabil Fekir to Liverpool has been called ‘absolute garbage’ by a leading journalist.

Whispers had been flying around that Fekir would be due to join the Reds in January, but Daily Mail writer Dominic King has allegorically denied any association.

Bookmakers have been slashing their odds on the Frenchman arriving at Anfield, said the Express, especially after Chelsea announced that they’ve signed Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund.

Fekir’s move to Liverpool collapsed in the summer and he’s continued to be linked every since. The playmaker is also having an excellent season with Lyon, which keeps the transfer rumour mill spinning at every greater speeds.

Earlier in the week a supporter claimed to have seen the target’s car at Melwood. However it was proven not to be Fekir, as he’s currently in Spain with the rest of the Lyon squad.

And King has poured cold water all over the suggestion that Jurgen Klopp might want to bring the man to Liverpool, claiming that he’ll never be a target again.

The Reds signed Xherdan Shaqiri in the summer and have Harry Wilson to come back from Derby County, so they certainly don’t require any more attackers. Someone would have to be moved on to make space for another huge signing, but with fresh contracts handed out across the front four that would be unlikely.

Fekir is clearly a good player but it wouldn’t make sense for Liverpool to make a bid now. Klopp has an excellent reputation for trusting youth, and with several high profile youngsters in the side it would make far more sense if they were used in a rotation capacity.
