Liverpool take on Manchester City on Thursday night and their fans are frightened of this one thing.

City have had a bit of a rough time with injuries and to make matters worse Fabian Delph picked up a three match ban after being shown a straight red card in their 2-1 loss to Leicester City.

Oleksandr Zinchenko had been drafted in as cover for Delph, but his error lead to Southampton scoring one of their goals on Sunday.

Aymeric Laporte has been a regular at centre-back, but he has featured on the left previously and this is something that makes City fans sweat.

With Laporte on the left, John Stones could reclaim his spot in the side and play with Vincent Kompany. However, Mohamed Salah would surely be licking his lips at the prospect of running at an out-of-position defender.

Salah is currently on 13 Premier League goals for the season, four more than the Cityzens’ leading contender Sergio Aguero. Former Liverpool snake Raheem Sterling also has nine, just one more than Sadio Mane.

There has been a lot of noise recently surrounding Pep Guardiola’s perceived injury crisis, but if a side like that with all their oil riches can’t survive a few players going down crocked then they don’t deserve to win the league.

Jurgen Klopp has got loads of options up his sleeve that’ll be sure to torment whoever Guardiola decides to play on the left. Xherdan Shaqiri has got more life in him than a Merseyside new year and has been a brilliant impact substitute for Liverpool.

Should the Reds come away with three points from this game, they’ll stretch their lead at the top of the table to 10. While on unassailable, it’ll provide a belief that’ll be difficult to overcome.
