Get Edwards in charge of Brexit! Liverpool fans can’t believe latest deals
Liverpool fans can’t believe the work sporting director Michael Edwards has done with the Dominic Solanke and Nathaniel Clyne deals.
Solanke cost the Reds on a cut-price deal after his Chelsea contract expired, and now after just one goal has joined Bournemouth for £19 million – said the BBC.
His new manager Eddie Howe praised the 21-year-old’s skill on the ball as well as his athleticism, but Liverpool supporters have done more to tell the world how pleased they are with Edward’s negotiating prowess.
And it’s not just turning a large profit for a youngster with no appearances this season, it’s all the work done in the past few transfer windows. Bournemouth have been an eager recipient of the Reds’ unwanted footballers as they’ve also signed Jordan Ibe and Brad Jones, while Nathaniel Clyne has completed a loan deal to the coast side as well.
Danny Ings moved to Southampton in the summer in a deal that’ll eventually see the Saints fork out £20 million. Edwards more than doubled the club’s money on Ings, who’d only scored four goals in an injury hit Merseyside career.
The Solanke and Ings deals alone brought in more than Liverpool shelled out for Mohamed Salah, who is turning into one of the most feared attackers on the planet.
Clyne has also moved to the south coast club on loan after falling to fourth choice at right-back. Despite making 100 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, he can’t operate how Jurgen Klopp needs him to and so was always going to be forced away from Anfield.
With a contract that expires in 2020, this is unlikely to be a big money spinner for the Reds – but it is a deal that could enable talented youngster Ki-Jana Hoever to earn more first team minutes and accelerate his development.
After losing 2-1 to Manchester City on Thursday night, Liverpool will need to dust themselves off and come back firing on all cylinders against Wolves in the FA Cup.
