Liverpool have finally got rid of Lazar Markovic as the attacker joined Fulham on a free transfer, but one mad factor seal the deal.

Markovic left on a free transfer after it appeared that no other team in the world would touch the failed attacker.

But the Cottagers finally took the Serb off Reds hands thanks to a mad recommendation by his national team-mate Aleksandar Mitrovic, who was glowing in his praise of Markovic.

For a club to sign a player who hasn’t played a senior game since his failed spell at Anderlecht ended in May with the 24-year-old making just eight appearances.

To be fair to Fulham, they’ve signed Markovic on a free transfer until the end of the season. It’s pretty much a win-win for player and club, who both get the chance to assess each other before making a decision in the summer.

But it’s still crazy that they’ve gone for someone to help them in a relegation fight on the back of what has been said in the dressing room. What does it say about their overall recruitment policy or faith in the scouting department?

A club statement said: “Fulham received very good recommendations from Mitrović regarding the player.

“Markovic made his breakthrough at Partizan Belgrade where he was a teammate of Mitrović and named in the SuperLiga team of the season in each of his two full – and title-winning – campaigns in the first team.”

As well as a deal for Markovic, the BBC reported that Fulham have also brought in former West Ham man Havard Nordtveit and allowed Aboubakar Kamara to join Yeni Malatyaspor on loan.

The deal means Liverpool completed two transfer deals on deadline day, both of them outgoings. Pedro Chirvella has joined Extremadura UD on loan until the end of the season, but you can’t imagine Chirvella having much of a future on Merseyside.
