Liverpool vs Bayern Munich: Dietmar Hamann worried for ‘fragile’ outfit
Liverpool and Bayern Munich legend Dietmar Hamann is worried for ‘fragile’ outfit as the two teams clash on Tuesday night in the Champions League.
Hamman played 143 times for Bayern and made 283 appearances for the Reds, with one season at Newcastle United to separate them. So it’s fair to say the former midfielder may have some split loyalties on this one.
And Goal reported that the German has joined a long list of those current and former players connected with Bayern who are talking down the Bundesliga giants’ chances of winning the first leg.
Hamann started off by saying that Liverpool would have been the last team Die Roten wanted to get in the draw, as they were matched up with sides who finished second in their group.

But that ignores the fact that the Reds only squeaked through thanks to a final round 1-0 win against Napoli. Liverpool’s current Champions League form is sightly suss and included a loss to Red Star Belgrade that nearly derailed their attempt to make the final for a second year in a row.
Hamann has based his praise on the back of a strong Premier League showing, and he’s right to pull that out as something that puts the Reds in a good position going into the game.
Bayern, feels the 57 cap international, have been too ‘fragile’ this season. Their defence isn’t as good as it once was, said Hamann, and they have a habit of giving up too many chances in games that they control going forward.
Liverpool posses an electric front three of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino – who will pounce on any error or gifted chance. Their pace has already been praised in the lead up to the clash and it’s sure to cause problems for Bayern.
Virgil van Dijk will be missing and that’s a huge loss for the Reds – especially as Dejan Lovren may not be fit either – so don’t count your chickens just yet.
