Liverpool take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night and remain unbeaten against the Germans, while there will be an England return for legend Arjen Robben.

The Reds have taken on the German giants twice in their history and haven’t suffered a loss yet. The first time was all the way back in 2001 as Liverpool took a 3-0 lead and managed to hold out for a 3-2 victory.

Goals from John Arne Riise, Emile Heskey and Michael Owen put the Reds in front before Bayern embarked on an almost-comeback thanks to Hasan Salihamidzic and Carsten Jancker.

And then in 2017 Liverpool overcame the Germans 3-0 in a friendly game that featured goals from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Daniel Sturridge. But before you get carried away, it’s worth noting that Jon Flanagan and Ryan Kent made substitute appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Robben will be making his return to English football, but to a stadium he hates and a place that has given the Dutch legend less than perfect memories.

With Real Madrid, the attacker lost 4-0 while also suffering defeats in 2005 and 2007 when he was a part of Jose Mourinho’s peak Chelsea side.

Meanwhile, former Red and Bayern midfieder Dietmar Hamann reckons that the German side will be nervy as they head out to Anfield.

Goal reported that Hamann, who spent seven years with Liverpool as well as making 150 appearances for the Bavarian outfit, thinks that getting the Reds is the last team they wanted.

And current Bayern defender Joshua Kimmich has even gone as far as to label the Reds favourites for the game on Tuesday, according to the Telegraph. Kimmich lamented over his team’s consistency and lauded Liverpool’s excellent defensive record, but without Virgil van Dijk it’ll be harder to keep a clean sheet on Tuesday.

But whatever the history between the two outfits, this is a side who still posses some excellent players and they can’t be underestimated.
