Liverpool vs Bayern Munich: Beware the wolf in sheep’s clothing
As Liverpool prepare to play Bayern Munich in the Champions League it would be worth remembering to beware the wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Far too many current and former Munich players are coming out and talking down their chances of winning at Anfield for it to be a coincidence. It just feels… wrong.
This is still Bayern we’re talking about, not some fourth rate Belarusian side who are playing during their off-season. This is still a team with world class players in every position. A few of them are getting old, yes. They’re having a poor season by their historical standards, agreed.
But come on, this is a side who have won five of their last six games – including coming from behind to beat Augsburg.

Bayern have got Robert Lewandowski to call on. Leon Goretzka. Thomas Muller, who is still only 29-years-old. Serge Gnabry, with his five goals this season. James Rodríguez, who can create something out of nothing.
All this talk about their ageing side, and the oldest out of that lot is Lewandowski. And he’s still banging in the goals for fun.
And at the back, 26-year-old David Alaba. 23-year-old Niklas Süle. Mats Hummels, who is 30 and in his prime years. Joshua Kimmich, the 24-year-old who is poised to become of the finest defenders in the league.
This talk has all the marks of a classic switcharoo. Deflect the attention back on Liverpool, put the pressure on Liverpool. Make them believe they have a right to win, and when it isn’t going to plan hit them where it hurts.
The Reds are still a quality side. We’ve only lost once in the league while conceding 15 goals and there is a reason for that. Of course Jurgen Klopp can plan us to a win. Of course the front three can overpower Bayern.
But if you believe that this game will be easy for even one second, you’ve fallen for the oldest trick in the book and let the wolf in sheep’s clothing into your front room.
