Liverpool fans are at breaking point with Daniel Sturridge after the striker failed to ignite a pedestrian attack against Manchester United on Sunday.

Sturridge replaced the injured Roberto Firmino before half-time and did nothing to make his case for more regular first team involvement.

The Reds failed to force United goalkeeper David de Gea into a single save as Liverpool spent 90 minutes working hard but producing little.

Firmino imping off was not a sight Liverpool supporters and officials wanted to see, and on the strength of this evidence the team will be a lot poorer without him. Sturridge was on his way out of Anfield last season and you can understand why now.

With 14 Premier League appearances this season and only two goals, it’s been a tough time for the former rampant forward. But if a striker isn’t producing the goods at one end of the pitch, fans at least want a high work rate and that wasn’t present either.

Klopp needs to strengthen his options in attack, and while Harry Wilson may be a good reserve winger the team needs an elite striker who can step up and make the difference.

Liverpool ended the game with Divock Origi and Sturridge on the pitch, but if they’re both at the club this time next season it’ll be a surprise.

In other news, Klopp’s decision making has been criticized as the manager opted to leave Naby Keita and Trent Alexander-Arnold on the bench. This choice robbed Liverpool of power and pace going forward, and helped lead to the boring stalemate.

But going into the game, most would believe that Klopp had little choice but to send Fabinho into midfield and continue to pick Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum. Dropping either of the pair wasn’t really a viable option.
