Liverpool took on Watford at Anfield and surprise starter Divock Origi got himself on the score sheet. So what do we do with him next?

Not only did Origi score, he carried out manager Jurgen Klopp’s tactical instructions to the letter and had an extremely effective evening.

The Belgian deserved the goal after his performance on the left of Klopp’s three-man attacking unit. Sadio Mane was played through the middle while Mohamed Salah took up his customary role on the right.

Origi was picked because of his efforts in training, as well as for his ability to offer something a little different. And that was certainly the case as it allowed Mane to move into a central position, from where he scored twice.

A lot of Liverpool fans would have expected Origi to be moved on in the summer. The club have already tried to sell him, but a move to Wolves fell through and the youngster was left fighting for his Reds career.

He may not have had the deciding impact that he enjoyed against Everton, but Origi still put in an excellent shift in his first league start since Burnley away on the 5th of December. Incidentally, the 23-year-old grabbed an assist against the Clarets but wasn’t seen again for over a month.

Klopp definitely has a decision to make. With such limited opportunity available to any forward who isn’t Firmino, Mane or Salah, can Liverpool keep Origi around the club at such an important period in his career?

He’s shown that he can be effective and definitely appears to be a more mature player who makes better decisions. As the first-choice back up to the favored trio, it could work.

But would Klopp be better served selling the forward, pocketing a decent fee and turning to Ben Woodburn, Rhian Brewster and Harry Wilson?

It would be a leap of faith in Brewster and Woodburn that’s rarely seen in the top four of the Premier League – and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see Origi at the club this time next year.
