Liverpool legend Pepe Reina has let Alisson Becker into the goalkeepers union at Anfield after a post on Twitter.

Alisson is on the verge of beating Reina’s amazing 2005/2006 record of 20 clean sheets. Becker already has 17 and there are still nine Premier League games left in the season.

The former AS Roma man is also leading the pack in terms of the league Golden Glove award but three as Manchester City stopper Ederson sits on 14 clean sheets.

Liverpool face a nervous last leg of the campaign as they go toe-to-toe with City for the title. Jurgen Klopp’s men trail their rivals by just one point, and three more shutouts will go a long way to helping the Reds triumph.

And that’s what Reina mentioned on Twitter as the Spaniard said he wouldn’t mind Alisson breaking his record, because it means Liverpool will be helped on their way to a first Premier League title.

Reina played 395 games for the Reds in all competitions in an Anfield career that spanned eight years. After joining Liverpool in 2005 from Villarreal, the 38-cap international won the FA Cup and League Cup before departing for Napoli on loan and then Bayern Munich permanently.

Alongside that eight year period on Merseyside, Reina played 182 times with Napoli and 140 games for  Villarreal in a senior career that’s spanned six clubs across four countries and 18 years.

Compared to this, Alisson is only at the beginning of his journey – although the Brazilian has already spent time in his native land, Italy and England.

If he can continue in this fashion, there’s every reason for optimism and the chance for another goalkeeper to make the jersey his own for a prolonged period of time. Alisson is 26-year-old, but that should still give him at least another six or seven seasons before time catches up with the stopper.
