Liverpool vs Burnley: Adam Lallana wins battle for hearts with goal reaction
Liverpool playmaker Adam Lallana has won the battle for hearts and minds with his goal celebration against Burnely in the Premier League.
Lallana was selected as part of the starting XI to play the Clarets as the Reds recorded a much needed 4-2 win at Anfield.
The decision was greeted with mass abuse and hysteria online but, surprise surprise, manager Jurgen Klopp was largely justified as Lallana played 77 minutes and played them well.
The incident in question was Mane’s first goal and the team’s second. Lallana did what he was picked to do and pressed aggressively from the front, won the ball back with a great sliding tackle and then watched as Mohamed Salah picked up the spoils before Mane slotted home.
And even though he was miles from the action, the former England midfielder celebrated with a huge fist pump as Liverpool took the lead. Lallana was instrumental in the lead up to it all, and you can imagine that Klopp would have been delighted with the contribution.
Lallana has had a troubled two seasons and it’s appeared as if his Liverpool career is winding down. The 30-year-old hasn’t scored or assisted since the last game of the 2016/2017 season and has only made 24 league appearances since then.
But it appears as if Klopp continues to hold the fella in high regard and as Lallana has proven his fitness the manager has rewarded that with starts. It’s certainly clear that Klopp fancies the floppy haired wizard far more than Xherdan Shaqiri, who can’t get a look in at the moment.
That has tested the patience of some Liverpool fans, but if leaving out Shaqiri and playing Lallana can catapult the Reds to the quarter finals of the Champions League and a Premier League win, nobody will be complaining.
Liverpool take on Bayern on Wednesday night with the aggregate scores still level.
