Liverpool beat Bayern Munich 3-1 in the Champions League to advance to the quarter finals, but before the game everyone was giggling at Franck Ribery.

And while Ribery didn’t really turn heads for his performance, the Frenchman turned them because of what was on the side of his own head.

Because, and for some unholy reason, the 35-year-old decided to shave the number ‘7’ into his short-back-and-sides.

Bookmakers Paddy Power were quick to pick up on the fresh fade, while their followers jumped in and we all had a good giggle about it.

Bayern could have done with Ribery making headlines for different reasons as they struggled to create enough chances to beat Liverpool.

Robert Lewandowski cut a frustrated figure for Bayern, who had to rely on former Arsenal man Serge Gnabry for invention and pace down the right flank.

Of course Ribery has had his time in the sun and is well decorated, as well as playing over 400 times for Munich scoring 122 goals and creating 183 others.

But Sadio Mane showed the old guard how it’s done as he grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and scored a goal Ribery would have been proud of.

Mane’s first was a thing of real beauty while the forward’s diving header displayed impressive technique and a level head to take the game beyond any doubt.

Bayern are making an impressive comeback in the Bundesliga and Ribery has been a part of that, but clawing their way past Liverpool and the dreaded away goal rule proved to be a step too far.

In truth, the Reds never really looked like losing the game and they can take a lot of confidence from that and into the hunt for the Premier League title.

And if Mane shows Ribery how it’s done throughout the rest of the campaign we’ll all be better off for it.
