Liverpool advanced to the next round of the Champions League thanks to a win over Bayern that left Martin Keown fawning and Robert Lewandoswki frothing.

The Reds won the game 3-1, thanks largely to an excellent Sadio Mane brace. Mane is stepping up to the plate as Mohamed Salah goes through a little rough patch and it’s so encouraging to see the Liverpool lad do so well.

Former Arsenal man Keown was fawing over Virgil van Dijk’s performance against Bayern on Wednesday night, and wrote in his Daily Mail column that he wouldn’t be surprised if the Dutchman was handed the PFA Player of the Year award.

The Reds won in Munich thanks to a van Dijk goal and assist as the former Southampton man showed the Champions League why he can be considered the best central defender in the world right now.

Not only is the Dutch giant a great center-back, but van Dijk can also launch passes up the field and create from the back – said Keown. And that is why he, and we, love the fella so much.

But from happiness at one end to misery at the other as Bundesliga ace Lewandowski let his feelings known about Bayern’s tactics at the end of the game.

The Pole criticised his manager’s tactics and said the home side should have been far more attacking as they slumped out of the Champions League.

Lewandowski was feeding off scraps for most of the game and perhaps that’s the cause of his frustration, but maybe the former Borussia Dortmund star has a point. Die Roten’s boss Niko Kovac has had a frustrating season, could he be to blame for the loss?
