Liverpool beat Fulham 2-1 in the Premier League but nearly contributed to their own downfall because of mistakes by Virgil van Dijk and James Milner.

Sadio Mane opened the scoring for the Reds before an error from Milner allowed the Cottagers to level things through Ryan Babel.

But Milner was allowed to make up for his mistakes when Liverpool were awarded a penalty, which the 33-year-old converted.

Mane continued his incredible run of goal scoring and netted his 11th in 11 games. The 25-year-old now has 17 in the Premier League and could win the Golden Boot this season.

After the game Milner and van Dijk took time out to address their mistakes, tweeted Neil Jones from Goal.

Milner told reporters that Jurgen Klopp send him on with the express instructions of calming the game down. And what was the first thing Milly did? Put van Dijk under pressure with a shocking slice and contribute to Fulham’s equalizer.

Van Dijk also acknowledged his part in the goal but was less keen to dwell on it as he emphasised the three points earned.

Adam Lallana started again and had another strong showing, and if Lallana can keep producing these sorts of performances than the former England international may play his way into Klopp’s thinking for next season.

The result takes Liverpool to the top of the Premier League, but they have played one more game than Manchester City.

City are still in four competitions and the Reds have to be ready to capitalize on any slip ups Pep Guardiola’s side may have. Klopp already let two prime chances squirm by, and the team can’t afford to let that happen again.
