An Adrien Rabiot doppelgänger got fans all excited as he watched Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Anfield.

Roberto Firmino opened the scoring and eased Reds’ nerves briefly before Lucas Moura grabbed one back for the away team, and it took a late late own goal to gift Jurgen Klopp’s men all three points.

Firmino hit the back of the net after an excellent cross from Andy Robertson and a bullet header by the Brazilian, which left Hugo Lloris with no chance.

Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld was in the right place to clear from Mohamed Salah’s knock down but couldn’t correct his feet as he bundled the ball into the back of the net from close range to spark pandemonium in the stands – including this hilarious reaction from Virgil van Dijk.

And among those watching was the Rabiot double, who had to take to Twitter after the game to clarify that it was him and not the French midfielder sitting in the Anfield stands.

It barely takes more than a careless whisper to spark online transfer rumour war, and something like this could send those pages into a frenzy. Rabiot and his future has been so drawn out that it appears like it’ll be never ending at times, and this was nearly another example of how the PSG star is flirting with Liverpool.

To be honest if there is no thing the club probably don’t need, it’s another high profile midfielder. Klopp already had to bench Fabinho and Naby Keita as he stuck with his preferred three of James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum.

Where would Rabiot even fit amongst those numbers? And don’t forget, Adam Lallana is still in the squad and still in the manager’s plans.
