Six reasons why Liverpool target Federico Chiesa would be a perfect signing
What are his main strengths?
He’s extremely quick but also tireless. Naturally right footed but more than capable with his left. He can play anywhere across the front but, if needed, can fill in defensively on the right (though more as a wing back than a full back). For me though, his hunger is what stands out the most – something not often attributed to the sons of former footballers.
And weaknesses?
At the age of 21 there’s still so much room for improvement, which is what is probably so exciting about him, given how good he currently is.
Prior to this season I would have made a case for his end product not always being fantastic. But, he’s carried the burden of leading Fiorentina’s attack very well and has scored and assisted his fair share.
On occasion he could be accused of trying to go it alone, but considering the calibre of his team mates it’s hardly surprising. And whilst one of his unique selling points would be his desire to regain possession, he has been known to give away many cheap free-kicks, though not often in dangerous areas.
There is a growing reputation (mainly from this season) of him going over a little easy in the box, but I wouldn’t read too much into it. In a league with VAR it’s as much the officials fault as it is his.
Though the penalty he won against Atalanta in September was particularly bad and worth a watch.
