The joke is referencing the commentary from Steven Gerrard’s dramatic late goal against Olympiakos in 2004. That stunner meant Liverpool qualified from their group into the knockout stages of the Champions League. Of course they went on to win the trophy that season in Istanbul.
Just last week Liverpool star Mohamed Salah hung out with the show’s star Emilia Clarke who plays Daenerys Targaryen. They were together at the TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people issue awards.
Maybe we will get to crack some Virgil van Dijk jokes next week when the action heads back to King’s Landing and we see the ‘The Mountain’!
