Liverpool lost 3-0 to a Lionel Messi inspired Barcelona as Joe Gomez started for the first time since December 5th. Read our player ratings for Gomez and the rest of the defense here!

Roberto Firmino started on the bench and was guilty of missing an excellent chance when he came on – as was Mohamed Salah.

The Reds controlled the game for much of the 90 minutes and it’s really only through the genius of Messi that Barca can take such a commanding lead into the second leg.

It was definitely a night of what could have been, and Jurgen Klopp will need his lads to play like heroes if they are to come away from the second leg with a victory.

Talking about the lads, click through the slides below to read the player ratings from the night. We’ve taken an average from the Guardian, the Daily Mail, Sky Sports and the Express.
