Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez

Joel Matip has been good this season and so leaving the Camaroon international out of the side is a big call, but Joe Gomez is the better defender and should start.

Clearly Virgil van Dijk will be alongside him, and the Dutchman’s ability to lead under pressure will be a valuable asset for Liverpool during the Champions League final.

Gomez, like van Dijk, is quick and a good ball player and should help Klopp execute his tactics without a hitch.

Dejan Lovren might feel like he deserves a spot in the team, but the Croatian has gone from World Cup finalist to fourth choice player in 12 months and shouldn’t feature.
