Alex McCarthy

This is the latest rumour, hot off the press. Southampton man Alex McCarthy doesn’t want to be behind Angus Gunn in the pecking order, he’d rather be behind Alisson.

Fair enough.

According to the Standard, McCarthy is open to the idea of an Anfield move after Ralph Hasenhuttl decided he wanted to install former Manchester City man Gunn as his first team regular.

McCarthy is a former player of the year with the Saints and has played 66 games in the Premier League, as well as getting one England cap under his belt.

With a value of just £4.50 million, according to Transfermarkt, it’s unlikely that the 29-year-old would command too high a fee. And with Fraser Forster also in the squad, Hasenhuttl is likely to be keen to get one stopper off his wage bill.
