Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren could be in secret talks with AC Milan about a transfer to Italy after reports of his agent meeting officials from the Serie A side.

Multiple reports are flying round that AC Milan have met with the agent of Dejan Lovren as they hope to negotiate a transfer for the central defender hoping they can get Liverpool to the table.

The Serie A giants have pencilled in Lovren as the experienced defender they need to shore up a woeful back line and they are working out how to make a deal.

Reports in Gazetta say that Milan are hesitant to shell out the full £25 million transfer fee that the Reds are demanding for the Croatian. He turns 30-years-old this week and they are hoping to get him to agitate for a move that Liverpool won’t be able to refuse as they let him leave for more first team minutes.

Milan have apparently held talks with agent Pedrag Mijatovic about the move and the defender is keen to play plenty of first team football in the final chapter of his career.

Lovren is now firmly the fourth choice center back at Anfield after the arrival of Virgil van Dijk in 2018 and the rise of Joe Gomez to challenge Joel Matip to be his regular partner.

Liverpool are not desperate to see Lovren leave as he provides enormous experience as a reserve and would be invaluable should there be an injury or two to the other three center backs.

However the signing of Sepp van den Berg and the rapid rise of Ki-Jana Hoever may convince the Liverpool hierarchy to cash in now if they receive an offer that is appealing enough.

My guess is that they will take a good look at the Dutch youngsters in pre-season and may sanction a departure for Lovren late in the window if they like what they see.
