Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana ‘has a dead body’ according to fans who are reacting to the latest injury news released about the player.
The Reds faced Borussia Dortmund in a preseason game in Notre Dame, but Lallana missed out on the clash because of a dead leg – which sparked mass eye rolling on Liverpool Twitter.
Dortmund opened the scoring through supersub Paco Alcácer but then last season’s loan superstar Harry Wilson grabbed one back before half time. Thomas Delaney and Jacob Bruun Larsen then made it 3-1 to the Germans before Rhian Brewster scored a penalty.
Wilson was part of a fairly strong starting XI that only featured a few players not normally considered first team options. Alongside the Welshman was Ryan Kent, Simon Mignolet between the sticks and youngster Yasser Larouci.
Lallana has been praised by Jurgen Klopp in the lead up to the United States leg of preseason, while the German even talked about deploying the former Southampton man in a different position, but his campaign to become an important first team member has taken a small hit already.
Citing Chelsea man Jorginho, Klopp reckons Lallana can become as effective as the Blues man in recycling possession for the team – although the numbers state he could be even better.
The playmaker has been involved in all of Liverpool’s preseason games so far, so hopefully this is just a precaution and Lallana will be back to first team duty for the next clash.
He’s been a top player for the club and has given everything for the cause. Klopp loves the wavey haired face of Nivea and his work rate should be used as an example for anyone who wants to make it under the German.
But times are changing and this season has to be last chance saloon for Lallana. There’s a lot riding on this successful redeployment as a number six, especially with a contract that expires in 2020.
