Liverpool youngster Ryan Kent has finally got the move away from Anfield after a summer of discontent. Here are the four stages of his last three months.

The BBC reported that Kent has finally got the move he wanted as the transfer clock ticked closer and closer towards towards the deadline.

After a whole summer of back and forth between the Reds, Rangers and anyone else who was interested in signing the winger, Kent and Gers manager Steven Gerrard must be very relieved with the outcome.

At times the deal looked like it was dead in the water, and I think you can separate them all into four stages as his summer of discontent looked like it was going to turn into a year of sorrow.

The 22-year-old was never going to be good enough to play for Liverpool and this move gives him the chance to develop and properly start his career in football with a manager who believes in him.

Locked in transfer limbo

There was an ‘is he, isn’t he’ element to the start of the transfer window as Kent seemed to be locked in some sort of limbo.

We all expected the forward to head through the door fairly quickly. He’s just come off the back of an excellent season in Glasgow, and Rangers were keen to keep him at the club – especially after he was named by the Scottish Premier League as 2018/2019’s Young Player of the Year.

After a while it became clear that Liverpool wouldn’t accept another loan offer for Kent. That made sense too, so everyone just sat and waited for someone to make a permanent offer.

And waited.

And waited.

And waited.

There were clubs who wanted Kent, but couldn’t afford him, and those who could afford him but didn’t want him. And so we progressed to stage two.
