Liverpool take on Newcastle United on Saturday as the Premier League gets under way again. This is what they’re saying about us.

Mark Douglas – ChronicleLive

Douglas said that he wasn’t expecting anything from the game. The whole of the bottom six will struggle against Liverpool, added the journalist, and he concluded by saying if Newcastle manage to do anything it’ll be hugely impressive. Watch the video embedded at the top of the Chronicle article to hear his arguments.

Chris Waugh – The Athletic

Waugh labelled it ‘unfortunate’ that Newcastle have Liverpool up next and said that few will give Bruce and his boys a chance against the Reds. He’s right.

Durim Halimi – NewcastleToons

Halimi questioned whether this is the best time to play Liverpool, as teams are coming off an international break. He went on to mention the Reds’ Champions League involvement and pondered whether Klopp would change things up in light of that, and whether or not that would help the Magpies.

NUFC360 – Twitter

The Newcastle fan account posted a video of Miguel Almiron scoring his first international goal over the weekend, and one of the replies to it essentially confirmed that Toon fans are very pessimistic for Saturday and reckon they’re lost at least 4-1. We hope.

The referee for the fixture has been confirmed as Andre Marriner, and a few Toon fans are thinking that they can at least blame Marriner when Liverpool do the inevitable and beat them at Anfield. The Reds are more likely to be ‘unplayable’ said one user, while the Magpies will do what they normally do and play badly.

What do we think?

Liverpool are going to come into this game fresh, energised and motivated because there is going to be a lot of competition for places over the next two or three weeks due to the packed schedule.

Anfield will be roaring, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane are fresh and goals shouldn’t be too tough to come by against a side who were humbled by Norwich City during round two.
