Liverpool vs Chelsea: Klopp blowing smoke? What’s being said before Sunday’s game
Is Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp blowing smoke ahead of the Chelsea game on Sunday? Here’s what the press are saying before the Premier League fixture.
Things haven’t always been rosy as these two sides prepare to meet again at the weekend and the Reds have only one two of their last six matches against the Blues.
With two draws from the other two fixtures at least you can say that Liverpool don’t often lose against the Stamford Bridge mob – although it took a late Daniel Sturridge stunner to stop that from happening all the way back in September last season.
Chelsea could have up to six players missing for Sunday as Frank Lampard is due to face the first real crisis of his time managing his club and you have to make the Reds favourites to take three points back to Merseyside.
But we’re Rush The Kop and we’re biased about the boy’s chances. Here’s what the rest of the press has to say about Liverpool.
Gary Neville wants Blues to win after calling them ‘likeable’ – Daily Mail
The Sky Sports pundit loves how Chelsea have been forced to play more young players, which has given them a better image this campaign. And in something that’ll come as no surprise to anyone, Neville also wants the Reds to drop points.
Apparently it’s because it’ll make the title race closer and more exciting. Okay.
Is Klopp blowing smoke up Lampard’s Shed End? – The Pride of London
Jurgen decided to praise the work Chelsea are doing, especially with bringing youngsters through like Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham. But The Pride of London aren’t having a bar of it, and called on Lampard to avoid getting into a mental battle with Klopp.
Lamps knows better than to engage with the opposition manager before a game, apparently.
Their biggest strength is our biggest weakness? – The Echo
Liverpool can’t keep a clean sheet and Chelsea always score, is what it basically boils down to. But the Blues have been up and down and Klopp is more focused on the result, not the clean sheet.
You’d still back the Reds to win.
‘Timid’ Blues star slammed – Rush The Kop
Christian Pulisic is too frail and timid to do well in the Premier League, say the experts. But did anyone give them the memo: we don’t trust experts any more? But comparing Pulisic to your nan does wonders for Liverpool, who are surely glad they passed up on him.
Chelsea will probably line up in a 4-3-3 – The Express
Mount out? As well as Emerson Palmieri, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Reece James and Antonio Rudiger. So they expect the Blues to field the following side: Arrizabalaga; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Zouma, Alonso; Jorginho, Kante, Kovacic; Pedro, Willian, Abraham.
