Beautiful stuff! Watch Mane and Robertson put the Reds 2-0 up against Salzburg
Sadio Mane and Andrew Robertson scored beautiful team goals to put Liverpool 2-0 up against Salzburg in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Mane finished off a great attack by cooling slotting home a cheeky pass from Roberto Firmino as the Reds took the lead at Anfield.
Firmino grabbed his nine assist in the competition and trails James Milner by one – but the plaudits belong to the whole side rather than one or two individuals.
Mane picked the ball up just beyond the half way line in the opposition territory, drove at the Salzburg defense, played a one-two with Firmino and received it back in the box.
From there it was pretty simple stuff to dink the ball around the goalkeeper for his first of the night.
People had thought Mane might be left out of the starting XI in the name of fresh legs, but it wasn’t to be as Divock Origi once more took his place on the substitutes bench.
And nobody else can combine like the Liverpool front three, although Mohamed Salah started the game in subdued fashion.
Meanwhile Robertson’s was a fine finish that many center forwards would have been proud of. The Scot was also the benefactor of his own hard work, as he laid the pass off and worked hard to get into a position to score.
Trent Alexander-Arnold supplied the cross and Robertson finished with the outside of his foot. What a combination, what a team!
How often would you find your left-back making those sorts of runs, getting himself nearly inside the six yard area and finishing another low cross across the box made by the right-back?
How cares if the midfielders don’t score goals or don’t get assists when the front three and the full-backs play their football like this? That isn’t their job anymore and we love it.
