Liverpool midfielder James Milner is coming to the end of his contract. Here are the reasons why the club must offer him a new deal.

I’m not saying Milner could become the new Emre Can or this situation will get a little poisonous, but it is strange that the club haven’t made him put pen to paper on fresh terms.

All the noises coming out from every nook and cranny seem positive. Back in May the Telegraph wrote that Milly and Joel Matip would be presented with extensions and then in September the Guardian reported that Jurgen Klopp was feeling relaxed about the situation.

But now it’s all gone a bit dark.

And, as if by some divine intervention, Milner popped up with a crucial performance against Leicester to remind the whole of the Premier League by he’s still a valuable cog in the wheel – even at 33-years-old.

His assist was a thing of beauty while his last minute penalty to win the game showed massive minerals and underlined his importance to the squad and to the team.

Milner’s involvement has been reduced a little bit this season but that doesn’t mean he’s any less important to Klopp. The gaffer loves him and called Milner ‘unique’ and ‘exceptional’ in the press conference after the Foxes win, as per the official club website.

Which is what makes this strange calm before the storm all the more difficult to wrap your head around. It seems everyone around wants to extend Milly’s stay with Liverpool, so here are three reasons why that should happen as soon as possible.
