Ronnie Whelan FA Cup semi final

Ronnie Whelan played over 400 times for Liverpool and didn’t seem to score many bad goals – but this one has got to be one of his favourites.

It was the FA Cup semi final 1985 and the Reds were searching for an equalizer from somewhere when Whelan popped up at the end of a delicious trapped one-two to curl in a beauty.

He must have been about 25-30 years out but the Irishman didn’t try to blast it, instead he perfectly placed his shot straight into the top corner of the net to leave the goalkeeper with no chance.

A beautiful goal that seems to have got lost with the march of the Premier League, nevertheless we should remember the effort and hope someone comes out with something similar.
