Benteke’s bicycle

Big Christian Benteke didn’t do much at Liverpool but he deserves to go straight to the Hall of Fame for this effort.

With four goals in his first nine matches, things were going well for the Belgian despite his clear suitability issues with the Reds’ system. One of those who was this outrageous bicycle goal against United.

The ball came in from a corner in a sort of ‘ just get it back into the box and hope for the best’ style return, and Benteke immediately fancied a bit of it and got the football sweet as a nut. It flew into the net. Flew.

Things never worked out with Benteke and he left the club after just one season. After some initial success with Crystal Palace, injury and low confidence have robbed him of the goal scoring knack he displayed at Aston Villa.

But we’ll always have that overhead kick.
