How Liverpool chose to train before taking on Manchester United in the Premier League has Twitter cussing and ranting about disrespect.

Liverpool have been accused of showing maximum disrespect towards Sunday’s opponents Manchester United after they were pictured playing basketball in training.

Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum spent time working with their hands, not their feet, as they were snapped shooting hoops on Merseyside as the day tick down to this weekend’s headline event.

As usual, Twitter was in uproar with some accounts laughing, some going mental and some being able to see the funny side of it all.

There was the predictable stuff about not showing Man Utd enough respect blah blah blah or saying that Liverpool are so good they don’t even need to practise their football to beat a poor Red Devils side. And, eh, we don’t hate that last sentiment.

All it really shows is that these gifted athletes have some fine all-round ability as van Dijk and Wijnaldum seem pretty capable with a basketball as well. Big Virg was sinking nothing but net shows to his heart’s content while Gini showed some lovely technique.

These players are going to be switched on and fired up when they step out onto the Old Trafford turf to play in one of the biggest games in English football, there’s no way they won’t be. Liverpool are unbeaten in eight while United are closer to the relegation zone than the top of the table but that means nothing going into Sunday.

The players might have been having a little muck about by shooting hoops but there is no way that attitude will translate to the field on Sunday. Jurgen Klopp is too thorough and the lads are too professional to ever let that happen.

Next. Refreshed Joel Matip will stop stuttering Juan Mata. dark

Premier League football is about to return after two boring weeks away, let’s get excited and use our energy on that instead of Virg sinking a few three pointers.
