Liverpool writer James Pearce has claimed rumours linking the club with Bournemouth star Ryan Fraser are wide of the mark.

talkSPORT has reported that the Reds are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Fraser, who has registered 27 Premier League assists in his career.

His contract is up at the end of next season and his performances during 2018/2019 would have alerted several clubs to his talent, but an injury disrupted start to the current campaign has limited the Scot’s impacts.

With one goal and two assists in his 11 appearances this season, the Cherries man hasn’t had the impact he would have hoped. But Liverpool still want the forward, said talkSPORT.

But, Pearce has called the rumour ‘nonsense’ and made it clear – via his Twitter account – that the club do not hold an interest in the player.

That comes as little surprise considering Liverpool have plenty of wide options. With Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane at the club, Ryan Fraser would never be a regular starter. Xherdan Shaqiri is also an option, once he recovers from his injury problems.

Harry Wilson is currently on loan at Bournemouth but he could be around the first team squad from 2020. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can play on the flanks, Divock Origi is Mane’s back-up and Rhian Brewster could be used across the front three.

Wilson was keeping Fraser away from regular action on the right-wing, and a move for the Scot wouldn’t make much sense based on the strength in depth of Jurgen Klopp’s options. There is no doubt he’s a good player and did tremendously well last season, but this isn’t a move that would suit the squad.

Is anyone really surprised that a rumour reported by talkSPORT has been shut down by Pearce, now of The Athletic.

Liverpool are now eight points clear at the top of the league after their tremendous win against Manchester City on Sunday. Let’s concentrate on that instead of these bogus transfer rumours.
