Midfield

Fabinho, Georginio Wijnaldum, James Milner

It’s boring, I know. But if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. And the Liverpool midfield three ain’t broke. The way all three play works wonders for the transition from defense to offense and for dictating the level of play in the heart of the pitch.

With five yellow cards on the season now after the Palace match, Fabinho will have to sit Liverpool’s game on the weekend against Brighton. So there’s no reason to have him sit now when he’s going to have to sit out over the weekend.

Jordan Henderson is the heart of this Liverpool team. The captain played 79 minutes versus Palace, even after pulling out of England duty with an illness. Henderson might still be good to go, and I’m sure he’ll argue he should play, but with the cluster of matches coming up in Liverpool’s schedule it makes sense to give him a rest and get James Milner a run-out.

Wijnaldum has legs for days and gives Liverpool a great option as the top of the midfield three, just below the forward line. He might not play the full 90 minutes, I imagine he gets subbed after 60 minutes in favor of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for the final 30 minutes.
