Liverpool 2-1 Brighton: He’s a Hogwarts wand! Trent Alexander-Arnold praised
Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold was highly praised for his performance as the Reds beat Brighton 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday.
Alexander-Arnold grabbed both assists as Virgil van Dijk headed home from a free-kick and a corner to give Jurgen Klopp’s side a 2-0 lead.
Alisson then received his marching orders for handling the ball outside the box and Lewis Dunk scored from the free kick, but Alexander-Arnold set the bedrock for the Liverpool win and the Seagulls never recovered the deficit.
After being left out of the starting side to face Napoli in the Champions League, Trent came back with a vengeance as he made his tackles, attacked well and whipped in those crosses with deadly accuracy.
For a while last summer Kieran Trippier could claim to have the best right-foot in English football but it’s clear that Trent Alexander-Arnold now has that crown. When he doesn’t play Liverpool suffer offensively and the youngster adds an extra element to their game.
So it’s no surprise to hear that praise being handed down to the England international following the Brighton win. The Mirror said ‘that right foot is such a wand it should be shipped off to Hogwarts’ and they’re right.
The right-back is so consistent in his delivery of crosses and his cross-field passes that there is a case to be made for him to be thought of in a David Beckham-style context – something that Danny Murphy believes is the case.
Alexander-Arnold’s two assists take his tally up to five for the season, level with Andrew Robertson, and that battle will continue to raise standards of the full-backs for the rest of the campaign.
Everton are up on Wednesday and the Scouser and life-long Liverpool fan will be ready to use his magic wand of a boot to devastating effect in the Merseyside Derby.
