Don’t Switch Off

All it took was a spilt second for Liverpool to capitulate. A split second and three errors compounded to get Brighton right into the game.

In the matter of a minute Liverpool committee three errors that would result in a goal against and could have very well cost them a couple of points.

First, Dejan Lovren gets caught by Brighton with a nice ball to spring Leandro Trossard. The Croatian center-back gets back into position, but the error was already made and Trossard is on Alisson.

Then it was Alisson’s brain fart to play Trossard’s dink with his hands while well out of the 18-yard box.

And the third was the entire team falling asleep as Lewis Dunk’s free-kick that resulted in Brighton’s only goal.

Before those three mistakes, Liverpool was cruising. They were comfortable with a 2-0 lead with only a handful of minutes left to play. But in the matter of a minute, they were pegged back.

They switched off for a split-second and Brighton had put the ball in the back of the net. That’s all it took a split second.

That’s the margins of error Liverpool is dealing with right now. If they switch off, even for just a second it could all fall away. Sure, Liverpool would win in the end. But the ending wasn’t as comfortable as it should have been as the game entered the 75-minute mark.

And again, a clean sheet was wasted for no good reason what so ever.
