No.2 – Mohamed Salah

As Mohamed Salah arrived in the summer of 2017, Liverpool already had an excellent attack. Firmino as a false nine, Coutinho on the inside-left and Mane on the right. So there was some suspicion that adding Salah would disrupt an already fluid unit.

The opposite. They became, arguably, the best forward line in world football with the Egyptian led the way.

His first season at the club was blistering. Did he score in every game? It felt like it. He scored 44 goals in all competitions as the Reds marched to a first Champions League final in 11 years.

He was so good that Sergio Ramos had to pull a dirty foul on him in the final to take him out to give Real Madrid a chance. In the end, Loris Karius gave them two.

Last year he scored a paltry 27 goals (enough for a second Premier League golden boot. We are a third of the way through this year and he has nine – still on the same pace. Opposing sides now double team – one of the reasons why Sadio Mane is scoring more.

Because of his goal scoring we forget his other contributions – he has 30 assists in less than two and a half seasons..

Liverpool signed him for £35 million but within 6 months he was worth £150 million. They’ve been to every Champions League final since he joined. Only one player has changed Liverpool’s fortunes more in the last decade…
