No.5 – Sadio Mane

Seven years ago Sadio Mane was playing for Metz in Ligue 2. Today he is rated as one of the best footballers in the world.

He arrived at Anfield in the summer of 2016 for £34 million. It was a major transfer – the club’s second biggest in their history. The pressure was on. Now that price tag seems a colossal bargain.

He was the first major signing of Jurgen Klopp’s tenure at Anfield and impressed instantly – scoring on his debut against Arsenal.

Mane has amassed 71 goals and 27 assists in 143 appearances across all competitions. Last season, the 27-year-old was one of the three recipients of the Premier League Golden Boot while also being selected in the PFA Team of the Year as well as in Champions League Team of the Season.

In 19/20, Mane is very much on the brink of enjoying the best season of his career. He already has 12 goals in 20 matches and provided he maintains his run of form.

Mane finished fourth in the Ballon d’Or this year and if he keeps doing what he has been in 2019 he will surely be a frontrunner for the award in 2020.

The impact that Mane has had on Liverpool in his three years at the club sees him take fifth spot on this list.
