Liverpool vs Everton: Five things we learned as rampant Reds run riot
Divock Origi has a future
We play a different style of football when Origi is in the side but his two goal haul proved that the Belgian doesn’t just have to be a supersub. He can make an impact when given the chance to lead the line for the full 90 minutes.
For the first goal Origi rounded Pickford and finished with his second touch of the ball, while he showed excellent intelligence and positioning by timing his run perfectly to stay onside. For the second the Belgian run off the shoulder of the last defender and finished beautifully with a lob executed with his instep.
Both strikes were pure poacher’s instincts and showed Origi has the ability to score goals when he’s given the opportunity. Firmino is a much more rounded footballer but these two goals give Liverpool a different option if they want to change their style of play and that could lead Klopp to picking both together at some point.
Klopp has generally picked Origi out wide as a replacement for Mane or Salah but the team looks a lot better with the forward running through the middle of the park while supported by natural widemen. On the basis of this performance, he deserves more chances to start as the central striker while Firmino supports.
