Liverpool vs Everton: Five things we learned as rampant Reds run riot
We should trust Jurgen Klopp more
You know the drill. The teams were announced and a thousand armchair managers spilled their tea down their trousers in anger and took to Twitter to criticise the actual, high paid, highly successful manager.
Klopp had sprung a little Christmas surprise with his team selection and rested two of Fab Three and gone for Lallana and Milner in midfield. Like many others, I thought it was a bit odd, especially the exclusion of Alex Oxalde-Chamberlain.
But as the dust settles on a glorious 5-2 hammering of Everton and the first time in ages that Liverpool looked deadly and fluid, we have to admit that we should take the long road sometimes and trust Klopp a little more.
Origi scored two goals and the Reds looked great with a more direct threat as both his strikes involved quick transitions from back to front. The first went Alexander-Arnold – Mane – Origi while it took one thunderbolt from Lovren’s boot and two touches by Origi to finish the move.
Shaqiri also netted and looked dangerous while compliant with the manager’s tactical demands and Lallana did all the hard work and looked to pop up in dangerous areas. Rotation is required in December and this felt like a taste of things to come.
