Liverpool: The 10 best LFC transfers of the 2010s
By David Gate
2. James Milner
Talking about free transfers, this is another one that sparked mixed reactions when it was announced but has become one of the best value moves in Reds history.
Left-back, right-back, left-mid, right-mid. Holding. There is hardly a position this man can’t play and he’s helped the side out of more than a few selection problems over the last five years.
I remember when James Milner would get picked for big Champions League games and there would be sheer uproar. We didn’t appreciate him then, but we do now. Milner brings so much to the squad and his recent contract extension is brilliant news.
Since joining from Manchester City in 2015, Milly has now played 198 games for the Reds (at the time of writing) and looks set to make Liverpool is most represented club. For a man who has only played over 100 games for five of his six permanent teams, that’s not bad going.
With two more years at Anfield confirmed, there is every chance this man could emerge out of it with close to 250 games under his belt and a new era of dominance ushered in. We’d then have to ask whether he’s the best ever signing the club has made.
