10. Luis Suarez

I can remember first hearing that Liverpool would be signing Luis Suarez. I was hyped. Roy Hodgson had just been sacked. Kenny was back. And Suarez would be playing with Fernando Torres!

However, that partnership would never happen. Torres was sold on 31st January 2011, the same day that Suarez arrived for £22 million. The Uruguayan was the club’s most expensive signing for only a few hours as Andy Carroll was bought from Newcastle for £35 million before the deadline.

While Carroll struggled and faltered over the next few years, Suarez went from strength to strength. He immediately endeared himself to fans with a Man-of-the-match performance against Manchester United  – basically handing Dirk Kuyt a hattrick.

The next 18 months were a steady progress before Suarez began to take over the league. In 2012-13 he bagged 23 PL goals and 30 in all competitions finishing second behind Robin van Persie in the scoring charts.

He would win the golden boot the following year as well as both the PFA and FWA Player of the Year awards in 2013-14. That was a magical year – perhaps the best season I’ve seen from any player in a Liverpool shirt – as he ascended to be regarded as the third best player in the world; only behind peak Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The biting, the racism and the snake-like maneuvers to leave mean he won’t be a true Anfield hero like the current crop of stars but he deserves a place on this list.

82 goals, some magical moments and a £40 million profit makes Luis Suarez one of the best transfers that the club has made this decade.
