9. Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane became the most expensive African footballer at the time when he joined Liverpool for a transfer fee of £34 million. That amount seems pretty much a steal given the impact he has had for the Reds so far.

Extremely fast and a fine finisher, Mane has established himself as one of the best footballers in the world thanks to his performances for Liverpool.

The Senegal international’s goal tally has been rising every season since he arrived at Anfield. He netted 13 in 2016/17, 20 in 2017/18 and 26 in 2018/19 which turned out to be a terrific one for him. Mane won the Premier League Golden Boot and found a place in the PFA Team of the Year as well as in the Champions League Team of the Season.

In 2019/20, the 27-year-old has been in stunning form so far, amassing 13 goals and nine assists in 23 Given the way he’s performing, there is  good chance he could end up being adjudged the PFA Player of the Year.

Mane finished fourth in this year’s Ballon d’Or and given his current form, he could well be among the contenders to win the award next year.

Liverpool have bought many players from Southampton in the past five years but the 27-year-old has probably had a bigger impact than anyone barring maybe, Virgil van Dijk.
