Liverpool: The 10 best LFC transfers of the 2010s
By David Gate
6. Mohamed Salah
This is the best value *big* transfer of the decade. Mohamed Salah became Liverpool’s most expensive player in their history – (finally) taking the title from Andy Carroll. The fee was for an initial £35.5 million with add-ons to £42 million. I’m guessing Liverpool had to pay those extras.
How do you define value for a transfer? Goals? Money? Trophies? Salah has brought them all. It was his arrival that saw the Liverpool forward line go from very good to the best in football.
He currently in has 84 goals for the club (plus a ton of assists) and while he hasn’t maintained the record-breaking pace of his 44-goal first season at the club, he is still scoring at elite levels.
Within 10 months of joining the club his £35 million looked a steal. He is currently valued at £150 million on transfermarkt though it would likely take more to persuade Liverpool to sell.
He has two Premier League golden boots, both PFA and FWA player-of the-year awards, a Champions League winners medal and a European Super cup to boot.
However you measure value and success in the transfer market Salah fulfills the criteria.
