Liverpool: The 10 best LFC transfers of the 2010s

4. Philippe Coutinho
Another player you will have mixed (or purely negative) feelings about but one who deserves a place on this list. His contributions to the club in his six years at Anfield would justify a place on this list alone but the revenue his sale brought in makes it indisputable.
Midway through Brendan Rodgers’ first season at the club Philippe Coutinho arrived from Inter Milan for just £8 million as a young Brazilian with huge amounts of unfulfilled talent. That potential was initially nurtured by Rodgers and then fully developed by Klopp.
He immediately elevated the quality of the Reds midfield and attack upon his arrival and was a crucial player in the 2013-14 Premier League title chase.
In his two full years under Klopp’s management he continued progressing to become the best player at the club and coveted by the best clubs in Europe. Watch how good some of his goals were:
He viewed his future away from the club and forced through a huge £150 million transfer to Barcelona. That remains the second biggest transfer of all time and the most profit any club has ever made from one player, just pipping Barca’s sale of Neymar to PSG.
54 goals, 40 assists, 142 million quid – safe to say his transfer was a success. He never won a trophy at Anfield but his sale paved the way for the purchases of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker. It worked out great for us, so thanks Phil 🙂
