Liverpool 1-0 Wolves: Five things we learned – the truth about Firmino
Jurgen Klopp has some tough decisions to make
This must have been a performance that delighted Klopp. Not necessarily how the whole side played, but how a few players have been doing in isolation to the overall unit.
I’m talking about Gomez and Lallana, who have come into the first XI without much football and have done well. Gomez out of necessity, Lallana on a case of rotation but both of these players will give the manager some serious thinking to do.
Naby Keita has been in fine form but was left out of the side in place of the former Southampton man, who is continuing his rehabilitation as a central midfielder. Each time Lallana plays there, he looks a bit more settled and a bit more comfortable and it’s giving Klopp a decision to make.
Gomez is also doing well and it will be giving Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren a few nervous nights as they contemplate their route back into the starting side. Much of the pecking order this campaign has been decided by who is fit at what point and it looks like 2020 will be no different.
The real test will come with all central defenders are ready to play. On current form, Gomez could retain the place he lost after that sub-par Charity Shield game.
