Teams are wising up to Mohamed Salah

I think we were all a little bit worried about this moment and it looks like it’s arrived. Teams are wising up to Salah and have started to patrol him with extreme diligence.

Before he was able to dance his way down the right and cause havoc of the left-back before cutting inside and slotting home, but those times are now long gone. This doesn’t mean the King is a worse player than he was during his breakthrough year, it’s just unlikely that he’ll put up those sorts of numbers again.

Salah is on nine for the season but hasn’t scored since the Watford win on the 14th of December – that’s four games ago. Luckily the forward still creates goals, and the extra attention he demands of the opposition means there will be more space for Firmino and Sadio Mane to operate in.

But this is still a sobering realization. Salah may not be the 30 goals a season world legend that we wanted him to be, but his overall play and the threat he poses will help Liverpool to win leagues and continental cups and that’s more than enough for me.
