Liverpool 1-0 Wolves: Five things we learned – the truth about Firmino
VAR has to be reformed
We are all sick of VAR and sick about talking about it, but this couldn’t be an article on the Wolves win without including something about the dreaded Video Assistant Referee.
Giving offsides by virtue of millimetres is just so wrong and it completely erodes the human element of football. Giving offsides because of an armpit or a finger or the length of Luis Saurez’s teeth is even worse because you can’t score with those things. The rules need to be changed and it would be best if they were changed to make the trailing leg of the attacker the line by which offsides are judged.
Liverpool got the rub of the green on Sunday but this isn’t always the case – remember Firmino at Aston Villa – and no matter how opposition fans might sing and cry about LiVARpool we all know this heartless random joy incinerator plays no favourites.
Let’s all bask in the win it delivered us against Wolves, but not too much. Because there will come a day when it robs Liverpool of three points because the last hair on the first curl on Salah’s head was in a marginal position and we’ll revert to our default position.
