The sharpness is back

There was a keen hunger to the way Salah went about his football against the Blades and he could have had more than just one if the goalkeeping wasn’t so good.

It was as if Dean Henderson made it his personal mission to ensure the King only scored once and left the field thinking about all the other delicious, delicious goals he could have scored if the Manchester United loanee wasn’t so good.

The first time Henderson denied Salah was a top-class reaction save that turned the ball away from its promised destination of the top-right hand corner. The Egyptian’s movement was excellent and he hovered out of sight of his defender, before making a darting run across the box to meet the cross.

His shot would have beaten more stoppers in the league – but not this one. A second effort was easier for the goalkeeper but was still a good save, while his snapped half-volley showed perfect technique as he sent Henderson sprawling down to his left to palm the ball away for a corner.

This was the performance of a man who has rediscovered his cutting edge and hunger to prove himself as one of the world’s best once more.
