Liverpool have signed, sealed and delivered a deal for a 21-year-old midfielder as their January transfer window gathers pace.

Sky Sports have reported that Hull City have completed an agreement to loan Herbie Kane from the Reds for the rest of the season.

Kane will link up with former boss Grant McCann at the Tigers. McGann was the English youngster’s boss during his temporary spell at Doncaster Rovers during 2018/2019, where he impressed greatly.

“It’s great to be linking up with the gaffer again. It’s nice that he has the trust in me to bring me here,” said the loanee – as reported on the Hull City website.

We all expected the Academy product to make this move back in the summer, but for whatever reason it never materialised and the 21-year-old had to sit in the U23 side and wait for rare Carabao Cup appearances.

Herbie Kane made his debut as a substitute against MK Dons and then started the Aston Villa mauling, and has now gone to get experience at a Championship level and continue his education.

The Doncaster move was Kane’s first taste of first team football and his introduction to League One was an unqualified success. The midfielder took to it like a duck to water and impressed the whole league as he made 49 appearances.

City are well stocked with central midfielders, so it will be interesting to see how McCann fits the youngster into the side. Jackson Irvine has made 25 appearances, Goerge Honeyman 23, Leonardo da Silva Lopes 23, Daniel Batty 19 and Kevin Stewart 17.

McCann played Irvine and Batty as the two in a 4-2-3-1 and you’d think Hull would need to sell someone if Herbie Kane will have much chance of raking up the games.

Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards rarely gets his loan moves wrong so you’d imagine he’s been given assurances of Kane’s place in the squad.
