Liverpool beat Everton 1-0 to progress in the FA Cup as Takumi Minamino showed he wasn’t afraid to get stuck in.

Curtis Jones scored the only goal of the game as Jurgen Klopp’s reserve side overcame a strong Toffies outlet to leave Carlo Ancelotti wondering where it all went wrong.

The win marked a memorable way for Jones to hit his first ever senior goal – and what a goal it was. The 18-year-old showed brilliant technique to curl the ball into the top right-hand corner with a venom and dip that left Jordan Pickford flailing in the air as he attempted to claw it out.

Everton were the better side in the first 45 but wasted chance after chance after chance and were made to pay but a youthful Liverpool side that included 16-year-old Harvey Elliott and Nathaniel Phillips on debut.

James Milner was withdrawn after 10 minutes with injury as the Reds were lobbed of their leader, but the Toffies weren’t able to make the most of it as they barely threatened Adrian in goal during the second half.

Takumi Minamino only joined the Reds on Wednesday but was thrown straight into the side after a few training sessions and immediately made his mark on proceedings as he impressed.
